The Good are those who just did not just hear but listened;
- The former MP of Kota Bahru who was marginalized in the recent election when he was dropped by UNNO i.e. Datuk Zaid Ibrahim appointed as Minister in Prime Minister's Dept. on legal affairs. He has been known to be outspoken with his views, particularly on the need for reforms in government, in the New Economic Policy (NEP), in reversing brain drain and even on the need to eliminate racially-denominated parties. He was the first one in the ruling coalition to insist for a royal commission when the Lingam video came out.
- Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad - Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (MP JB). The NST published a front page news yesterday (4th May 2006) titled Nudge, nudge. Wink, wink… Customs ignored MP’s request. The close one eye case.
On a Parliamentary session yesterday, a motion was brought up by Opposition Leader, Mr. Lim Kit Siang for the then unnamed MP to be referred to the Parliament Rights and Privileges Committee. Datuk Shahrir voiced support for the motion, stating that it involves the integrity of Parliament.
Consequentially, when votes were called for the above mentioned issue, the votes received from BN MPs was a resounding “No”. Datuk Shahrir then walked out of the session in disgust, declaring that he is quitting the BBC chairmanship in the Parliament lobby.
It was later made known that the then unnamed MP was in fact Datuk Mohd Said Yusof, MP for Jasin. - S.K. Devemany - Minister in Prime Minister's Dept. (MP Cameron Highland). Devamany was found to have broken ranks with Barisan Nasional when he said that the gathering of 50,000 Hindraf supporters at the illegal demonstration on 25th Nov 2007 showed the Government’s failure in equal distribution of wealth. He was then summoned to the WHIP's office to explain and was given a warning. None of the MIC bosses supported him because he listened to the Indians.
The Bad - the ultimate insult to Malaysians;
- Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz - Minister in PM Dept.
- Tan Sri Mohammad Mohammad Taib - Rural and Regional Development
I would not say much about them in my blog except that you will read enough in Raja Petra's Malaysia Today.
- The non creation of Unity and Integration Ministry which is the most important ministry at this moment in time. It has been lumped together with Culture, Arts and Heritage headed by Datuk Shafie Apdal.
The Don't Know-lahs
All the new faces its difficult to assess them at this point. Only have to hope they are coming in clean and stay clean. Mostly I feel they have been included to just window dress.
